  • Administrative Positions

Having worked at community colleges, private universities, and public research institutions, I understand the unique challenges each faces - and how to turn those challenges into opportunities for better teaching and learning.

Community colleges taught me the art of flexible course design. Working with faculty, we've created engaging learning experiences that work for diverse student populations, from career-changers to first-generation students. Every course needs to be accessible, rigorous, and most importantly, relevant to students' goals.

In private university settings, I've guided in-person and remote teams in developing training that made a real difference in student success. By focusing on practical, evidence-based approaches to teaching and learning, we've seen meaningful improvements in student retention and engagement.

My work with public research universities has centered on building bridges - whether connecting STEM-H programs with industry partners or helping international students navigate their academic journey. I’m well-versed in working with diverse populations, and even wrote my dissertation as a means for advocacy for international student populations.

These collaborations have led to innovative programs that support both student success and institutional goals.

  • Education and Teaching Experience

I bring a robust academic foundation to my teaching career, holding a Ph.D. in Education with an emphasis in Instructional Design and Technology, an MSEd. in Higher Education with concentration in International Higher Education from Old Dominion University, and a B.A. in Communication with a focus on Graphic Design from Longwood University.

My teaching portfolio spans, continuing education, graduate and undergraduate levels, including extensive experience as an Adjunct Instructor at Regent University, where I designed and taught a comprehensive suite of graduate-level courses in the Masters of Education Technology program.

At Old Dominion University, I demonstrated versatility in teaching both career development courses and STEM general education classes, consistently engaging large cohorts of students while fostering critical thinking and practical skill development.

Throughout my teaching career, I've strived to maintain a student-centered approach, successfully balancing rigorous academic standards with real-world application, particularly in areas of technology integration, design thinking, and career development.

  • Publications and Presentations

My passion for improving education shows up in my research too. I've shared practical insights and evidence-based strategies through articles in Tech Trends, International Journal of Design for Learning, and Performance Improvement. These publications are a crosswalk between my upbringing overseas with my desire to help international students succeed in their higher educational pursuits.

My research impact also extends beyond traditional academic publishing, as evidenced by a feature in The Study Hall by Instructure on diversity-focused classroom strategies.

I actively share insights through my blog, providing educators with quick resources, course design ideas, and best practices for instruction.

I'm passionate about helping other educators grow and succeed. By sharing what I've learned about instructional design and educational technology, and learning from my fellow colleagues, together we make this field better from everyone!

  • Memberships and Certifications

Staying current in education means constantly learning and growing. I maintain a range of certifications that help me better serve educators and learners, including:

Beyond the classroom, I serve as a member of the United States Air Force Auxiliary (Civil Air Patrol), where leadership development and service to others reinforce my commitment to lifelong learning and community impact.

  • Grants and Service Awards

What matters most isn't the awards themselves, but what they represent: creating opportunities for learners and building inclusive educational environments.

The Virginia Community College System recognized my efforts with two Excellence in Education Awards for building opportunity, collaboration, and inclusivity.

My work in eLearning earned national recognition from the Instructional Technology Council, while my commitment to diversity and administrative excellence was acknowledged with both the John R. Broderick Diversity Champion Award and Administrator of the Year Award at Old Dominion University.

Working with cadets through the United States Air Force Auxiliary (Civil Air Patrol) as a STEM educator has been especially rewarding, allowing me to inspire the next generation of leaders while developing their career readiness skills.

  • This Semester

I thrive on keeping multiple exciting projects in motion. Right now, I'm diving into two dynamic consulting opportunities - a faculty development project with a local community college and a course design contract for national public safety initiatives.

Between consulting sessions, I'm feeding my curiosity through a steady-stream of materials focused on innovation in design and I am crossing my fingers for a chance to geek out at InstructureCon, or AdobeMAX this year.

My biggest passion project at the moment? I'm putting the finishing touches on a practical workbook for hands-on professional development workshop materials.

Stay tuned, this list (and this entire page) are always evolving!
